Solu – smallest computer with a cloud-linked OS

It’s fascinating to see how far computers have come, from being an ugly beige box to the masterpieces of today. This isn’t a new concept to build durable and small computers for everyday use, but what sets Solu apart from the rest is its own unique Operating system with cloud computing capabilities and touchscreen to interact with.

The hardware

Solu is a four-inch wide block of curved, wood-encased computer with an edge-to-edge touchscreen. Inside is a 2.3GHz processor, battery and Wi-Fi capability. It can be used on its own or paired with a keyboard and a display up to a resolution of 4K. When paired, the Solu acts as an input device like a trackpad instead of a mouse.
Once connected to an external monitor with the USB type C port, Solu’s screen transforms into a smart touchpad with context-specific controls. Despite its size, Solu is incredibly powerful. It is one of the most powerful mobile devices ever created and is more than 10 times faster than other MiniPCs capable of running Android applications.

The operating system

Solu has built on a completely new type of operating system, linked to the cloud it also works offline, The user interface is designed around zooming in and out of ‘cells’ — a combination of content and application code. You do not need to open applications and files. Simply zoom in on what you want to do. You do not have to worry about installing apps and their updates, and Solu has almost unlimited storage, although this update and unlimited storage plans aren’t free its included in a subscription plan,
The interface also works quite different than the mainstream windows, it works in more visual manner. Collaboration spaces are presented as a series of bubble-like nodes connected together like neurons: emails, presentations, images and collaborators are all represented equally in the same space.

Another great thing that the Operating system promises is its collaboration features, they claim, with clever algorithms Solu managed to synchronise this in real time and figures out what to do when you reconnect after being offline.Native apps and tools track all the changes you make in your documents. Whether you are working on something alone or with a group, you’ll always have access to the complete history. When you share something, you’re not just sharing the document. You’re also sharing the application used to edit that document, which means that your collaborators can start working as soon as they open it.
